First Sunday of Lent

Posted by frmac on February 28, 2009

Given all the hub-bub these days surrounding the Vatican (Pius Xth, Vatican II. and Bishop Williamson, Fr. Macial etc,) the diocesan sexual abuse scandals, and the many other controversial and disconcerting issues that seem to weigh down on us these days, I think we really all need this Lenten season. Lent is a time when we confront sin and human imperfection, and seek God’s mercy, peace, forgiveness, and God’s the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Earlier today I posted a few thoughts on Lent that you might want to read on Fr. Bob’s Corner, if you are preparing a homily this weekend, or just hoping to find some spiritual insight during these perplexing times. There is an old saying that says, “there is nothing new under the sun.” How true this is when it comes to being human. Jesus might have lived in a very different time, but I’m convinced that the one consistent variable in all the change in the last 2000 years is human imperfection and sin. Link to Previous Post: Fr.
